RABLOGEM DSR

RABLOGEM DSR

Composition Rabeprazole Sodium 20 mg (Enteric Coated) and Domperidone 30 mg (Sustained Release) Capsules
Description

Introduction

RABLOGEM DSR is a prescription medicine containing Rabeprazole Sodium 20 mg (Enteric Coated) and Domperidone 30 mg (Sustained Release), a scientifically established combination used for the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other acid-related gastrointestinal disorders associated with impaired gastric motility. The combination provides dual therapeutic action by reducing excessive stomach acid production while improving gastric emptying and upper gastrointestinal motility.

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric proton pump. Domperidone is a peripheral dopamine D₂ receptor antagonist with prokinetic properties that enhances gastric emptying, improves gastrointestinal motility, and increases lower esophageal sphincter tone, helping reduce acid reflux. Together, these complementary mechanisms provide effective relief from heartburn, acid regurgitation, upper abdominal discomfort, bloating, nausea, and post-meal fullness.

When prescribed appropriately, RABLOGEM DSR helps relieve symptoms, promotes healing of acid-related mucosal injury, and improves quality of life in patients with GERD and functional dyspepsia.

Uses of RABLOGEM DSR

RABLOGEM DSR is indicated for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, particularly when delayed gastric emptying contributes to symptoms.

It may be prescribed for:

  1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  2. Acid reflux and heartburn
  3. Functional dyspepsia
  4. Gastritis associated with excess gastric acid
  5. Acid-related indigestion
  6. Bloating and post-meal fullness associated with delayed gastric emptying
  7. Non-ulcer dyspepsia

Note: RABLOGEM DSR is not intended for the immediate relief of acute heartburn and should be used under medical supervision.

Benefits of RABLOGEM DSR

RABLOGEM DSR combines a proton pump inhibitor with a sustained-release prokinetic agent to address both excessive gastric acid secretion and impaired gastric motility.

Scientific benefits include:

  1. Effectively suppresses gastric acid secretion for sustained symptom relief.
  2. Helps relieve heartburn, acid regurgitation, and upper abdominal discomfort.
  3. Improves gastric emptying and upper gastrointestinal motility.
  4. Increases lower esophageal sphincter pressure, helping reduce episodes of acid reflux.
  5. Reduces post-meal fullness, bloating, nausea, and dyspeptic symptoms associated with delayed gastric emptying.
  6. Supports healing of acid-related esophageal and gastric mucosal injury.
  7. Once-daily sustained-release formulation promotes convenient dosing and improved treatment adherence.

How RABLOGEM DSR Works

RABLOGEM DSR works through the complementary actions of Rabeprazole and Domperidone.

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that irreversibly inhibits the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (gastric proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach. This markedly reduces gastric acid secretion, allowing healing of acid-related mucosal injury and relieving symptoms such as heartburn and acid reflux.

Domperidone is a peripheral dopamine D₂ receptor antagonist with prokinetic activity. It enhances gastric emptying, improves upper gastrointestinal motility, and increases lower esophageal sphincter tone, helping reduce reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus while relieving nausea and post-meal fullness.

Together, these complementary mechanisms provide comprehensive management of acid-related disorders by addressing both excessive acid production and impaired gastrointestinal motility.

Dosage & Administration

RABLOGEM DSR should be taken only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.

General Adult Dosage

  1. The usual recommended dosage is one capsule once daily, or as prescribed by the treating physician.
  2. It should be taken 30–60 minutes before a meal, preferably before breakfast.
  3. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
  4. The duration of therapy depends on the patient's diagnosis and clinical response.
  5. Lifestyle modifications such as avoiding large meals, late-night eating, smoking, alcohol, and maintaining a healthy body weight may further improve treatment outcomes.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, RABLOGEM DSR may cause side effects, although many patients tolerate treatment well.

Commonly reported side effects include:

  1. Headache
  2. Nausea
  3. Diarrhea
  4. Constipation
  5. Abdominal pain
  6. Flatulence
  7. Dry mouth
  8. Dizziness

Patients should consult their healthcare provider if symptoms persist, worsen, or if they experience palpitations, severe dizziness, allergic reactions, or persistent gastrointestinal symptoms. Long-term proton pump inhibitor therapy should be periodically reviewed by the treating physician.

Contraindications & Precautions

RABLOGEM DSR should not be used in patients with:

  1. Known hypersensitivity to Rabeprazole, Domperidone, substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
  2. Gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation.
  3. Prolactinoma (pituitary prolactin-secreting tumor).
  4. Known prolongation of the QT interval or significant cardiac rhythm disorders.
  5. Concomitant use of medicines known to prolong the QT interval or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, where Domperidone is contraindicated.

Important Precautions

RABLOGEM DSR should be used with caution in patients with:

  1. Moderate to severe hepatic impairment.
  2. Renal impairment.
  3. Osteoporosis or other risk factors for fractures during prolonged PPI therapy.
  4. Vitamin B₁₂ deficiency or hypomagnesemia during long-term treatment.
  5. Elderly patients.
  6. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, only if considered appropriate by the treating physician.

Patients should inform their healthcare provider about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements they are taking before starting RABLOGEM DSR, as clinically significant drug interactions may occur.
